Nikkaluokta is the natural starting point for journeys into the Kebnekaise area, and has been so ever since it was established as a Sámi settlement in the early 20th century, at which time there was no road going anywhere near it. Nowadays there are regular bus tours to and from the village, the center of which is the tourist facility run by the famous Sarri family. This offers housing in a number of cabins of different types, and there is a service building with showers and sauna.

The main building contains a well-liked restaurant and a small shop where provisions, Sámi handicraft and other local or local-related items are sold. On specific occasions the restaurant/pub is host to special events and performances, and all round the year guided tours and other activities are available on demand. The opening hours of the facility are usually the same as those of Kebnekaise fjeld station, but groups are accepted at any time as long as they reserve their stay in advance. In winter Nikkaluokta Alltransport offers transport by snowmobile or snowcat to Kebnekaise, up Visttasvággi, or beyond if so needed, and in summer there are boat tours upstream Visttasjohka.
